Doctor Who reviews on The Onion’s AV Club

There are some quality write-ups of Classic Who series on The AV Club worth reading. To get you started, here are a couple entries from the mid-late 1980s:

1. “Vengeance on Varos.” Colin Baker, as the much-maligned Sixth Doctor, hangs out with a character that quite frankly resembles Mr. Hanky from South Park. The quality of the episode is roughly the same as Mr. Hanky, come to think of it. I still like the idea of Six being nasty and mean, but its execution during his two seasons gave the show a mortal wound.

2. “The Curse of Fenric.” Sylvester McCoy’s time with Ace was the precursor to the New Doctor Who. Yes, the show was on its last legs, but Seven’s character development and Ace’s story arc have directly influenced a lot of how the current show plays out. I see a lot more of Seven’s character in Matt Smith’s portrayal of the Doctor than that of the Second Doctor, but that’s just me.
