I just had a thought. Shh, spoilers!
CAL seems an awful lot like the old Matrix (which has yet to be revived in the new series). I wonder if it would be possible to “download” her memories into another person, though coming up with someone as a recipient with the same genetic make-up as River would be difficult to do. On the other hand, since she is officially dead, this partially answers the regeneration question: she could be on her last one, or she could have less than twelve due to her proto-Time Lord nature. You could also say that River was doubly there for the Doctor’s death, though I’m thinking that the 1103-year-old Doctor was an excellent Flesh copy, created by him because he knew what Melody had in store for him.Moffat confirmed on his Twitter today that River did indeed die in the Library, and only her memories were saved into CAL. But that means…that the Doctor was present for her death, and later, she was present for his.
WHAT CAN IT ALL MEAN.
Okay, this changes things. Hmmm.
